The Vankleek Hill Old Tyme Fiddlers have performed in public for the last time. The group, which has entertained the community and surrounding area for 50 years. They played their final concert on Friday, November 8 for residents of Heritage Lodge in Vankleek Hill.

According to musician and fiddler Bobby Lalonde, then Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI) Principal Wyman Bradford asked a 15-year-old Lalonde to teach a fiddling class to local adults. That class evolved into the Vankleek Hill Old Tyme Fiddlers.

“They are truly a staple of our community,” Lalonde said at the closing concert.

The fiddlers have been a big part of community events, and often performed on stage at events such as the May Show.
