The Vankleek Hill Cougars are off to a hot start in the National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL) playoffs, winning the first two games over the Metcalfe Jets to take a 2-0 lead in the first-round series between the two teams.
The Cougars, who finished in third in the NCJHL regular season standings, topped the sixth-place Jets 6-2 in the second game of the series, at home at the Vankleek Hill Arena. Mael Gendron earned the win in goal. Saturday night’s home win followed a solid two-way performance on the road that saw Vankleek Hill open the series with a 5-0 shutout of the Jets at Larry Robinson Arena in Metcalfe on Valentine’s Day, backed by the impenetrable goaltending of Tristan Paquette.
The series resumes this weekend. Game 3 is scheduled in Metcalfe on Friday, February 21, with an 8:15 start. Game 4 will again be in Vankleek Hill on Saturday evening, February 22. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
If necessary, Game 5 will be held on Wednesday, February 26, at the Vankleek Hill Arena. Game 6 would be Friday, February 28 in Metcalfe, and Game 7 on Saturday, March 1 in Vankleek Hill.
