Minimum wage earners in Québec will see a slight pay increase starting May 1, 2025. The minimum wage will rise from $15.75 to $16.10 per hour to help offset inflation and the rising cost of living.
Since 2016, the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) has overseen labour standards, pay equity, workplace health and safety, and injury compensation for Québec. This includes adjusting the minimum wage.
Generally, employees must be given at least minimum wage in Québec, even if they receive additional benefits or reimbursements paid by their employer.
CNESST clarified that employers are not obliged to adjust worker wages if they are already receiving more than the updated minimum wage rate.
On average, a full-time minimum wage employee working 35 hours a week will earn about $637 more than last year—an increase of approximately 2.22 per cent. Their annual income will rise to $29,302 before tax and other deductions.
