The Glengarry Pioneer Museum in Dunvegan will open its doors this long weekend for its 63rd year of preserving and interpreting the history of Glengarry County. Staff and volunteers have been busy preparing the ten heritage buildings and updating exhibits, which visitors can come to see on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 4pm.

Temporary exhibits this season include 200 Years of MacCrimmons, an exhibit to highlight the many artifacts and history of the Clan MacCrimmon who are having their 200th anniversary of their arrival to Glengarry this July. To accompany their family reunion, visitors to the museum will be able to learn about this rich history and see authentic artifacts from the museums collection with connections to this long-standing Glengarry family. This includes hand grist stones (also called querns) dating to the mid 1700s in Scotland and brought to Glengarry by MacCrimmons in the first half of the 1800s. Some larger artifacts will be part of a MacCrimmon scavenger hunt where visitors can spot other MacCrimmon artifacts throughout the barns, livery shed, Star Inn and other buildings. For more information about this anniversary, go to: .

Other temporary exhibits currently being worked on include a WWI display which features a unique three-wheeled wheelchair used by John Alexander Grant of Apple Hill after he lost both of his legs in the Great War. Also included is clothing, portraits, and war art brought home by Glengarrians.

The annual Smith-In Blacksmith weekend is scheduled for the Fathers Day weekend of June 14 and 15. Blacksmiths from across Ontario, Qu矇bec and a few from the US will descend on Dunvegan to demonstrate, network and do workshops over the weekend.

This season at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum, there will also be a Stitch In Time textile day, Movie Under the Stars and try-it workshops such as painting with watercolour, needle felting, rug hooking and spoon carving. The busy fall season will include the Harvest Fall Festival, War of 1812 Reenactment, paranormal investigations, and more!
