At the council meeting on February 27, Champlain council unanimously approved a modest increase in annual remuneration for 2025.

In 2024, councillors received $24,105 each, while the mayor received $47,606.

For this year, council members will receive $24,587, while the mayor will receive $48,588, distributed in monthly payments. This represents an annual increase of approximately two per cent or an additional $482 per year for councillors, and 2.06 per cent or $982 more per year for the mayor.

Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Tessier confirmed that the annual remuneration increase was based on inflation and approved during 2025 Budget consultations.

Additionally, council members are entitled to $130 per meeting for attending their designated liaison committee, other officially appointed committees, or special council meetings. There was no change made to this amount from 2024.

If a council member of the mayor leaves office, they will be compensated according to the by-law, up to and including their last month in office.

The remuneration by-law was adopted without further discussion. Councillor André Roy was absent from the meeting.
