The unemployment rate in Eastern Ontario remained lower than the rate for the entire province during the first month of 2025.
In January, the Eastern Ontario unemployment rate was 5.4 per cent. Eastern Ontario is defined as Prescott-Russell, Stormont-Dundas and Glengarry, and the City of Cornwall, according to statistics provided by the Eastern Ontario Training Board (EOTB). The Ontario unemployment rate in January 2025 was 7.6 per cent. A separate unemployment rate is tracked for the City of Ottawa, and it was six per cent in January.
In January 2025, there were 546 online job postings in the area served by the EOTB. Out of that total, 51 postings indicated hybrid or remote work was available, and 309 of the postings were actually placed directly on the websites of employers.
